Kathy Kimmel was born in 1936 in Alabama, and Bob Kimmel was born in 1935 in Oklahoma.
Bob spent most of his career employed by Florida State University, serving in many capacities including Vice President. Kathy worked independently in the
antiques business. Upon retirement they joined the folk art world. Having always been drawn to 18^th and 19^th century folk art, they began carving and painting bird sculptures reminiscent of that era. They use white pine to carve the song birds and Western cedar for the larger ones. The carvings are finished with acrylic paint and topped off with a protective matte finish and become sculptures as they are incorporated into tree branches and/or mounted on interesting bases that the couple have collected in their travels.
If our work brings a smile to someone or brightens their day, then we have been successful.
