Carol Roll

Carol Roll folk artistCarol Roll has enjoyed creating since she was a child. She has always been fascinated by faces impish, serious and somber. She admits that her school papers as a child were covered with sketches and mostly of faces — as were her business meeting notes as an adult. Today, as a professional studio artist, she creates three-dimensional figures with distinct emphasis on the face.

In her teens, Carol developed a passion for antiques and collectibles and has been collecting them and inspired by them since then. Her paper mache figures are all originals and are hand-built without the use of molds. Each is embellished with odds and ends — thimbles, wooden spools, paper parasols, vintage glitter, bits and pieces of old papers and magazines — from her treasure chest collection.

For Carol, there’s comfort in old things. She loves faded colors. She loves anything that speaks of innocence, nostalgia and impish memories. Although her figures look like toys, they are fragile pieces of folk art.
