Amy Payne

Amy Payne, folk artist, photo Amy Payne was born in White County, GA in 1936.

Amy married the boy next door and today they live in Banks County, Georgia.  After raising five children, she went to work in the local school cafeteria where she cooked for twenty years.  When she retired at the age of 70, she was bored, and a year later she began to paint “just for something to do.” She began by painting happy scenes from her childhood.  “I’d always loved art but didn’t think I had any talent.” Amy now paints prolifically, on canvas and canvas board, with acrylics.  Her subject matter is rural scenes from the forties and fifties, life as it used to be in less hectic times.

Amy began by showing her work at some county art shows and is exhibiting for the first time “officially” at Main Street Gallery.
