Rudolph Savain

Rudolph Savain, folk artistRudolph Savain was born on Dec. 10, 1955 in Haiti. His family
immigrated to the United States when Rudy was 8 years old.
They lived for a while in NY but eventually moved to Tampa, Florida.
Rudy loved art from a young age and painted almost every day.
He was diagnosed with Schizophrenia when he was 16 but still
managed to complete his high school education.

Today, he lives in Valrico, Fl with a caregiver and attends a
program for physically or mentally challenged people. There,
he is encouraged to pursue his art. Rudy is extremely shy and
reluctant to talk about himself or his motivation to make art
but he believes he is a surrealist. He obsessively paints his favorite
subject matter consisting of houses, driveways, trees, and birds. Perhaps
those are the elements in his life with which he is most familiar and
those that give him comfort and inspiration.
