Holly Schlater
Holly Schlater was born in Columbus, Mississippi and attended college at University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. She received a BFA in drawing and painting, and an MAE with a studio emphasis in painting and printmaking. She has been exhibiting her work in the southeast since 1994, through several galleries and museums. Her work is primarily influenced by folk and outsider art, children’s art, and “art naive” from Australia.
She currently lives and teaches in Anderson, SC with her husband and three children. Additionally, she has seven dogs and two cats which often show up in her artwork in various forms. Holly loves creating “whimsical wonderscapes” where she can play with color relationships, various patterns, and interesting shapes and forms.
Holly is represented by several galleries in the southeast, and her artwork has been purchased for numerous private and corporate collections. She was also recently commissioned to paint three murals for the Levine Children’s hospital cancer clinic in Charlotte, NC. This project was especially meaningful because she was asked to include objects in the paintings that represented former patients. She also created 70 paintings and collages that were purchased for the Levine Hospital’s hallways and patient rooms.
