Kenny Dickerson
Kenny Dickerson was born in 1955, in New York City. He now lives in Tampa, Florida.
Kenny Dickerson was an undiagnosed victim of dyslexia and was classified as a slow learner in school. Taunted by classmates, a very shy Dickerson retreated to his passion – art. His work is deeply influenced by his African ancestry. Combining natural materials such as sticks, roots, or palm fronds, with found objects, he weaves together his personal vision with his heritage. He works compulsively on several pieces at a time, and when he stops to reflect, he may ask himself, “Who made that?” Dickerson believes that with help from God the pieces form themselves.
Dickerson is an emerging artist whose work is included in the Mennello Museum of Folk Art in Orlando, Florida.
