Tubby Brown
June 25, 1929 - July 22, 2003

Tubby Brown was born June 25, 1929, in Jackson County, Georgia.  He passed away on July 22, 2003.  It wasn't until he retired in 1981 from the grocery store he had owned for 35 years that Tubby became interested in and had time to make his art. He began by building birdhouses, but soon his imagination led him to create "more oddball stuff." His pieces which were made from scrap lumber, tin or other found objects were finished with brightly painted colors. An Angel's Christmas Tree, a Devil's Hot Tub and a Noah's Ark were among his favorite subjects. He was known for religious themes and his sense of humor.  His work was shown by many galleries and is owned by many private collectors throughout the country.
