Meg Campbell Pottery“Two things influenced me as a college student. One, when I was at the UGA Program abroad at the Venice Biennale, I remember a large game fish exhibit on a wall in a vast white room. They had been there for three months when I saw them. The impact was shocking – sight, smell, and feeling. Then in the 70’s, the curator of MOMA visiting UGA was asked how she chose works for the museum. She said she picked something if she’d never seen anything like it before.

I have been working on my own now for over forty years, have had many phases and styles, and taught for twenty years, always influenced by my life, in painting, sculpture, pottery, and collage. At present I am trying to merge painting and sculpture, in image and idea, to see what working in different media does to a subject. My style is haphazard, fraught with mistakes. In my own work, I dislike traditional beauty and abstract the subject, whether a mug or a landscape.” – Meg Campbell
